The Modern Firm has had several opportunities over the last couple of years to work with both British and American Virgin Islands law firms. Law practice in the Virgin Islands is fascinating to us because of the variations in governance, tax structure, treaties and other factors distinct from traditional practice in the continental U.S. Each firm we have worked with has had an inevitable close connection between its practice and the locale, itself.
Most recently we launched a website for the British Virgin Islands law firm Hunte & Co. The firm's practice includes international/cross-border work with entities incorporating or doing business in the BVI. The firm also handles a range of local matters. One immediate impression we got is that you couldn't find a more welcoming and dedicated professional staff. Each member exudes expertise and, more than that, a personal commitment to exacting work and client service. We enjoyed collaborating them to highlight this key aspect of the firm through new professional profiles.
At the helm of Hunte & Co. — embodying the firm's commitment to excellence — is Lewis S. Hunte, QC, himself a BVI legend. Mr. Hunte has worked in prominent roles throughout the British Caribbean for decades, and was involved in drafting central BVI legislation including the 1984 International Business Companies Act of the Virgin Islands, which has served as a blueprint for statutes adopted in many offshore jurisdictions and was the forerunner of the 2004 BVI Business Companies Act. The firm's website was launched just in time to promote the release of Mr. Hunte's autobiography, "Memoirs of a Caribbean Lawyer: The Autobiography of Lewis Stephenson Hunte, QC."
The website was design to capture and highlight each of these central features of Hunte & Co. It was also launched with a coordinated email newsletter system allowing the firm to share updates simultaneously through its blog and to its list of email subscribers. Because the firm also works directly with clients throughout Europe, we incorporated a GDPR privacy notification for website visitors.
