The Modern Firm Creates a New Website for Atlanta Title IX, Education, and Criminal Defense Lawyer

Megan Ballard Mitchell knew she wanted to be a lawyer ever since she attended “government camp” at the age of 14. After earning her Bachelor’s Degree from UNC Chapel Hill and her law degree from Emory University, Megan began her legal career working for the highly-regarded Hall County Public Defender’s Office and, later, for the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights. In 2023, Megan established her own law firm, where she works at the intersection of education law, civil rights, and criminal defense. She uses her prior experience and expertise in criminal defense and education law to represent clients in Title IX cases that involve allegations of sexual misconduct, where those two fields intersect. 

Megan’s clients often come to her feeling overwhelmed, unsure of where to turn, and fearing for their future. She sees them not as the bad people they are often portrayed to be, but as good people who made poor choices. She works to protect them from the unreasonably harsh punishments they frequently face. Megan is responsive to her client’s needs and strives to forge a human connection in a legal process that often seems dehumanizing.
