Michigan Law Firm Websites Converted to Mobile Friendly, Responsive Designs

Slowly but surely, even the world of law is catching up to the need for websites that display well not just on traditional computers and laptops, but on devices of every size imaginable — from iPads and other tablets to Android and iPhones, including those in new larger sizes like Apple's iPhone 6 Plus, Motorola's Droid Turbo 2, and Samsung's Galaxy Note5.

For some time now, all of The Modern Firm's law firm website designs have been created using responsive design principles. In short, responsive design senses the screen size of the device you're using — and responds by displaying appropriate text and images. Responsive design is more cost effective, and requires less ongoing, duplicative maintenance, when compared to creating both a website design and a separate mobile app (let alone when compared to creating a website design, an Android app, an iPhone app, an iPad app ... !).

Particularly in the past, there was more debate about the pros and cons of responsive design — as reflected by an ABA Journal article on responsive design for law firms. The Modern Firm's position on the debate has been well stated by founder Brendan Chard, as quoted by the article:

After our research, it became crystal clear to us that for the vast majority of law firms, responsive design is the most appropriate way to handle their mobile visitors. A mobile app for the firm is usually overkill and requires too many steps for the user to obtain and use.

We also think that Robert Algeri of Great Jakes Marketing Co. in New York summed it up perfectly: “Responsive design is just a coding technique. It can be implemented elegantly or it can be implemented badly."

In other words: responsive design done well is usually the best option for small and medium-sized law firms.

Given the absolute necessity of having a mobile-friendly website design, The Modern Firm also offers reasonably-priced conversions — from older, traditional websites to responsive designs — for our existing clients. Two Michigan firms recently took advantage of conversion, and we're really pleased with the results!

Ypsilanti, Michigan, Law Firm

"Providing legal expertise and exemplary service to individuals and businesses for over thirty years."

Roberts & Freatman of the Ypsilanti / Ann Arbor area is a longstanding Southeast Michigan law firm offering a wide range of respected legal services.

The firm's prior Modern Firm website design was over 10 years old so, during the conversion, they also took the opportunity to update the design to a simple, sleek, business-card like format.
